Industrial painting for agricultural machinery: protection against wear and corrosion

Contact us

Agricultural machinery operates in extreme conditions: mud, impacts, continuous exposure to atmospheric agents and very intense work cycles. For this reason, painting is not just an aesthetic element, but a real protection that ensures corrosion resistance, reliability and long useful life for tractors, combine harvesters and field equipment.

In this article we tell a real case (indicative data) that shows how an advanced painting cycle improved the performance of an agricultural machinery manufacturer.

The customer's problem

An Italian manufacturer of agricultural machinery contacted us reporting:

  • Early corrosion on components exposed to mud, standing water and from the use of spray fertilizers.
  • Scratches and abrasions during field use that left the metal exposed.
  • Rapid discoloration of the paint, with loss of image towards dealers and end users.

The initial analysis

After laboratory tests on the artefacts, we found:

  • Insufficient surface preparation → poor paint adhesion.
  • Single-layer cycles not suitable for medium-high corrosivity classes (C4–C5).
  • Limited resistance to UV rays: loss of shine and dulling of the finish after two seasons.

The proposed solution

We have studied a cycle suitable for resisting both corrosion and the impacts typical of agricultural work:

  • Sandblasting → complete removal of oxides and optimal surface preparation.
  • Cataphoresis primer → total anti-corrosion protection even in the most difficult points and edges.
  • UV-resistant powder finish → greater resistance to corrosion, shine and stable color even after years of exposure to the sun.

The multilayer cycle made it possible to reach the ISO 12944 C4-H protection class, ideal for agricultural use.

The results obtained

After applying the new cycle, the customer recorded:

  • Salt spray resistance up to 1,000 hours.
  • 40% reduction in aesthetic defects on delivered machinery.
  • Longer chromatic durability: vivid and brilliant colors even after 5 years of use.
  • Strengthened image: dealers perceived a leap in quality on the finished product.

Conclusion

Industrial painting for agricultural machinery is a strategic factor: it protects equipment from daily wear, improves the perception of quality and reduces maintenance costs in the long term.
