Impact Resistance Test: methods and purposes of use for painting
Contact usThe impact resistance test is an extremely useful test, as it allows you to evaluate the results of impacts on painted surfaces.
The impact resistance test is a very widespread test, as it allows evaluating the results of impacts on painted surfaces. The instrument used to carry out the test does nothing but deform the surface to be tested by hitting it, thus highlighting the flexibility of the paint and the potential cracks that will form.
Impact resistance tests are extremely useful in the painting phase because they measure the resistance of the coating to deformation when a certain load is applied rapidly.
To carry out the test, which we are able to conduct in our laboratory dedicated to testing and sampling, we proceed by dropping a hemispherical weight onto the coated surface to be tested. The weight, guided by a track, is dropped from greater and greater heights until it causes the film to crack; the resulting result will be expressed by the ratio between the starting height of the test that led to the paint breaking and the weight used to hit the surface.
The result is influenced by a number of characteristics, such as the thickness of the paint, the mechanical properties and the surface of the substrate.
The standard that regulates the test is ISO 6272, which indicates the standard method for evaluating the resistance to breakage or detachment from the substrate of paints when subjected to a deformation caused by a falling mass having a spherical punch of 20 mm in diameter.
