How to benefit from cataphoresis: applications and benefits of the longest lasting surface treatment
Contact usMore than how to take advantage of cataphoresis, we should ask ourselves why we shouldn't always take advantage of it whenever possible. In the following article we see how cataphoresis proves to be fundamental for a wide range of industrial sectors and why we always suggest its application.
Have you ever wondered why certain products are able to resist outdoors without suffering damage caused by rain, snow or salt? It is assumed that someone treats them in such a way as to make them "impermeable" to external agents and oxidation, but how exactly? That's right, they are processed with a particular treatment and, for the most valuable items and for which maximum protection is to be ensured, the process in question is cataphoresis.
Think of cataphoresis as a dip painting treatment, rather than liquid or powder paints. With powder, paint is applied to a surface and then heated to the point that it melts. After becoming liquid, it is left to dry, producing a colourful, durable coating that is both economical and environmentally friendly. With the liquid, however, the paint is applied to the article and, after entering the firing oven and left to dry, it also remains imprinted on the surface.
Both treatments are also protective, but not at the levels of cataphoresis, which is often used as a base coat, with the sole protective purpose: after having processed the articles in cataphoresis, another level of treatment is subsequently added, powder or liquid, to color the article according to the most diverse needs.
Cataphoresis is a complex and extremely long-lasting treatment, including multiple stages and sequentially progressing steps, which entails an unparalleled level of surface protection. It is an electrolytic process, because electrodes connected to the positive pole are also immersed in the tank containing the bath for the actual cataphoresis painting. In short, the developing electric field gives rise to electrochemical phenomena which cause the paint to deposit on the piece. For this reason, the articles that can be treated in this way must necessarily be metallic in nature, such as steel, aluminium, cast iron and more.
Precisely because it is a complex process, it is essential to rely on a partner with proven experience in the field and who has systems capable of responding to the most diverse needs.
Below is a list of some sectors in which Zoccarato Industrial Coatings supplies cataphoresis coating and the individual advantages this entails.

Examples of cataphoresis painting
Automotive
One of the sectors par excellence, an industry already known for the meticulous surface coatings of its products, cars of all types are always treated with cataphoresis. The bodywork is always entirely covered with it, so as to limit the rate of oxidation as much as possible, and the same goes for the internal components linked to the engine and mechanics.
Industrial machinery and agricultural machinery
This sector could be among the most suitable of all for cataphoresis. These are machines in direct contact with water, earth, snow, wind, 365 days a year and in all climatic conditions; therefore, the cataphoresis coating allows for a protective barrier that eliminates the risk of such highly valuable items losing their value and deteriorating due to external agents.
Equipment for agriculture and landscaping
Mother Nature is not kind to metal items and rust plays its part. Cataphoresis guarantees their durability over time and protects these machines from the conditions in which they have to operate, which are often particularly arduous.

After being treated in black cataphoresis, these articles from the agricultural sector are finished using red powder coating.
Solutions for liquid management
Solutions for fluid treatment include items such as pumps, electric pumps and compressors, designed to manage the treatment of water and other liquids. Painting these solutions means covering them with a treatment that protects them from wear and corrosion, preserving their quality and performance for a guaranteed longer and more durable life cycle.
Refrigeration and heating
Solutions capable of lowering or raising the heat of rooms or items compared to the external temperature, such as cold rooms, refrigerated counters, blast chillers, heat pumps, radiators, boilers and air conditioners, are subject to wear and problems deriving from the temperatures themselves.
Components
An almost infinite scope, with a single common denominator: nothing must rust or be damaged due to oxidation, given that these are components that are often essential parts for the functioning of articles in their entirety. For this reason, ensuring that these items do not lose efficiency over time is essential, because they must ensure that they do not interfere with the functioning of the asset they compose.

Certified specialists in cataphoresis painting
After reading this short list of some industries and products that can be painted with cataphoresis, the easiest question to ask yourself might be: what cannot be painted with cataphoresis? To be honest, when it comes to metal items, very little! But choosing the right painter and partner for cataphoresis is fundamental, because the quality of the treatment must always be at its highest to ensure performance over time and impeccable aesthetics.
The importance of the certifications available to Zoccarato Industrial Coatings lies in the fact that they guarantee compliance with the requirements imposed by international standards regarding the conformity of products, services, processes, systems and people.
